Hundreds of people in London have been helping to set a new world record for the largest picnic table.

Organisers said 360 people turned up in Potters Field Park, near Tower Bridge in the City, where a 295ft (90.1m) table was laden with food and drink.

Blur bassist Alex James hosted the event which intended to smash the current record of 76m (249ft).

After the record attempt the table was due to be divided and sections donated to parks across the capital.

The event was held in support of the third annual Big Lunch on 5 June, which is led by the Eden Project and funded by the Big Lottery Fund.

The Big Lunch is aimed at bringing communities together.

An official from Guinness World Records attended the event to ensure it was a continuous picnic table and check the measurement.
