Find out how past events and incidents have affected the development of the London Fire Brigade from the Great Fire of London and how this fire influenced the evolution of fire fighting to the establishment of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade, as a public service, in 1866.
Notable fire service figures will be highlighted, including the first chief officer, Sir Eyre Massey Shaw, whose work and writings about fire safety are still significant today.
During the day fire fighters will be giving talks about LFB's existing fire engines and the Fire Investigation Team will be available to provide information about the role of the London Fire Brigade today showing how the past has influenced the future.
Two years ago the museum was threatened with closure when fire authority chairman Brian Coleman told a City Hall committee that "when you've seen one brass helmet you have seen them all".
