Southwark Council has launched a public consultation on the replacement for the current Elephant & Castle Leisure Centre, including the crucial question of whether the new centre should have a swimming pool.

The council will be displaying initial internal layout  concepts to accommodate a proposed new gym, sports hall and swimming pool.

At this event there will also be an opportunity to discuss the scheme with Southwark Council officers who will answer any questions that you may have about the proposals.

"We want everyone in Southwark to have great leisure facilities and we want to make sure we provide the facilities local people want to use," says Cllr Fiona Colley, cabinet member for regeneration.

"To do that we need residents to let us know how they would like to spend their time in the centre should the scheme proceed.

"My message to residents is: This is your Elephant and Castle leisure facility and you have the opportunity to make a difference to its future, so please get involved and voice your opinion today.

"We want residents to tell us what features would persuade them to visit. Please reply before the cut off date of Friday 17 September when we will collate the responses and report the results with further information on our website."
