To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department

(1) what steps her Department is taking to promote awareness of cycle crime;

(2) what steps her Department is taking to reduce the theft of bicycles.

It is for police forces to tackle the problem of bicycle theft in areas where this is a particular problem for the local community. This involves not only enforcement action but also effective crime prevention advice to the public on measures to secure their belongings.
